"Thou shalt not kill" applies to
persons not a fetus.
There's no such command against killing plants, animals, tumors, germs, etc. Most
everything you eat to sustain your body fruits, vegetables, meat ALL came from LIVING
beings. All life is sustained by killing of another life. What medically distinguishes
humans from other life is the developed outer layers of the human brain "gray
matter" which is the cerebral cortex.
The cerebral cortex is the seat of human emotions, perceptions, sensations and all
other traits we consider uniquely human. At the start of the 3rd trimester, the
fetus has a reasonable chance of survival outside the womb. It is also at this point
the cerebral cortex starts to function.
The gentile Christian Augustine of Hippo (354-430), influenced by both the early
Church and Aristotle said if what is brought forth is unformed, but at this state
some sort of living shapeless thing, the law of homicide would not apply for it
could not be said there was a living soul in that body for it lacks all sense, if
it be such as is not yet formed and therefore not endowed with its senses. Gregory,
Bishop of Nyssa (330-395) expressed these same sentiments when he wrote that the
unborn embryo could not be considered a human being. Modern medicine now relates
such senses to cerebral cortex function.
In the first trimester when 90% of all abortions are performed, their is no functioning
of the cerebral cortex clearly nothing that distinguishes it as human. The only
nero function is nothing more than very primitive brain stem activity which control
autonomic responses. The cerebral cortex doesn't start to function until about the
same time as the outer edge of viability - 20 to 22 weeks, long after most abortions
are done. For further medical facts I suggest "Facts of Life: Science and the
Abortion Controversy" by Harold J. Morowitx.
So much for the lies about killing in the Bible having anything to do with abortion.
While the Bible does give examples of lots of abortions, it no where suggests it
is wrong and clearly aborting a first trimester embryo has absolutely nothing to
do with the Biblical condemnation of murder.
Nature has been destroying fetuses by the millions for millions of years via miscarriage.
We have no shortage of humans on earth. We have been fruitful and multiplied like
flies. Our earth is over populated with millions dying of hunger.
In the U.S. many mothers on welfare don't have the same access to abortion and therefore
taxpayers raise their children who often commit crimes and are a burden on society.
No women should have children unless she can be emotionally and financially responsible
for them. If not it is her responsibility to either find someone to adopt them or
have a first trimester abortion.
