Those Leaping Fetuses

Lets take a look at the common misunderstanding about the soul in the womb and such things as leaping fetuses.

Luke 1:41-43 is often quoted where the fetus leaped in the womb and the Holy Spirit told Elizabeth that Mary was carrying Jesus Christ. Many later stage pregnant women feel fetal movements that they would describe as leaping , this is just normal fetal movement. The fact the Holy Spirit told of the blessed event that was to take place had only to do with foreknowledge not a statement as to the status of a soul currently in the fetus. Often scripture uses poetic or symbolic language to show special points. It can't be used to prove soul in womb, only that Holy Spirit said the fetus was blessed and would become Jesus.

Luke 1:31 says And behold thou shalt conceive in the womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. Note the conception and the bringing forth are TWO DIFFERENT EVENTS! Seems Jesus became a person after his birth not before.

Jeremiah 1: 4-5 likewise seems about foreknowledge. Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, Before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. Again this is poetic symbolic language showing appointment and knowledge but does not indicate soul in womb.

Likewise there are verses in Sirach and Wisdom (part of the Catholic Bible not accepted as biblical by Protestants) of wisdom formed in the womb and other symbolic statements Catholics use to support their soul at conception theory. Some Catholics argue this is clear evidence of soul in womb and that we have no right to interfere with life created by God and we will have to answer to God for anything we do to harm the preborn. (What ever preborn is....can I claim my inheritance now from my predead parents?).

Many Catholics believe this is truth above all other truths. Just like Jews know their no soul till birth truth above the Catholic truth . Catholics may get upset when told this is just their opinion, just as Jews would their opposite truth as God teaches it. Both of course believe every other truth is error except their own God given truth .

That my friends is what wars have been fought over through the times. Fortunately in America we try and respect each others differing truths. That is the key to the abortion debate. Not whose truth is better than another's, but respecting each others truth. In no other area is this clearer the need than concerning abortion. Lets stop arguing whose truth is more the truth and respect each women's right to practice HER TRUTH, whether it differs from yours or not.
