Sex and Swinging:
A Presentation and Discussion of Biblical and Christian Issues
Saturday May 11, 1996 3 PM Sharp
This is a BIBLICAL/CHRISTIAN-oriented session, led by Bill, specifically designed
to deal with:
Issues of religious-based sexual guilt
Why Christianity has become a sex-negative faith
A positive biblical approach to sexuality and spirituality
Topics we will discuss:
NUDITY, THE BODY AND SPIRITUALITY
SEX, SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS AND WHY WE DON'T HAVE TO BE
MONOGAMOUS
WHY THE CHURCH IS SUSPICIOUS OF PLEASURE, SEXUAL AND
OTHERWISE
CHRISTIAN LOVE AND SEXUAL VARIETY
THE FREEDOM TO LOVE--principles of freedom from "Christian" legalism
The presentation and discussion will last about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Fellowship and
refreshments will be available afterwards.
Many couples have asked us why, as Liberated Christians, we have not discussed in
greater depth the biblical issues and issues of Christian tradition relating to
sexuality and relationships. Our answer has been two fold: first, we have discussed
many of these issues in our printed reports, although some couples who are not subscribers
to the Newsletter have not received those materials; second, the couples in Liberated
Christians represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds and interests. Some have no
interest at all in our Christian perspectives, but are attracted to our views on
responsible nonmonogamy and to the kinds of couples who make up the Liberated Christians
groups; therefore, we have tried to present ideas and discussions that would deal
with the sexual concerns of the larger group.
But many people are looking for solutions to the shame and guilt that has traditionally
accompanied "Christian" teachings about sex and also want to develop more
positive feelings about their sexuality and relationships from a spiritual point
of view.
On Saturday, May 11, Bill will lead a teaching and discussion time which we hope
will help people develop a better Christian perspective on these issues. A second
session is also planned, the date and place to be determined later. These sessions
will be hosted by one of our committed couples in their home.
A number of people have also expressed an interest in a smaller group fellowship
format, something we have not yet attempted. If the response to these two sessions
is positive and people want even more, Bill is open to leading additional sessions
which would be structured in more of an informal fellowship format.
